Raavan: India’s answer to the Oscars?

Mani Ratnam makes another entry into Bollywood with his much awaited film Raavan, soon to hit the silver screen i.e. the release date of Raavan is 18 June 2010. The star cast of Raavan includes Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and the Tamil film star, Vikram.

It is for the second time in a row that the team of 5 strongholds in the Indian film industry (Mani Ratnam, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Gulzar along with A. R. Rahman) will be seen making a film together (Raavan) following their previous chartbuster ‘Guru’.

The plot of Raavan: Raavan’s storyline is said to be based on the theme of ‘Ramayana - where Sita is abducted by Raavan.’ However, director Mani Ratnam claims that Raavan is a modified version of Ramayana peppered with filmi twists & turns.

Music of Raavan: Raavan’s music has been composed by music maestro A. R. Rahman and the songs of Raavan have already started to create a buzz among listeners. Specially the songs like Beera-2 and Ranjhaa-2.

Mani Ratnam is a filmmaker known to bring out the best out of his actors and Raavan should be no different if things work out as usual.

Star cast:Abhishek Bachchan fans are in for a real treat as Bachchan Junior will be seen in the new avatar of Raavan.

Abhishek Bachchan has generally played shady roles in Mani Ratnam movies (Guru & Yuva) and it will be interesting to see how Abhishek Bachchan is utilized in Raavan.

Vikram: Tamil film star Vikram makes his debut in Bollywood with Raavan. Vikram is a renowned star in the Tamil film industry and is also a recipient of the National Film Award and the Film Fare Award (Best Actor) for his film, Pithamagan.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Filmi fans are desperate to see Aishwarya Rai in yet another new avatar in Raavan. Aishwarya Rai plays the character of Ragini (Vikram’s wife in the film).

Will Raavan be India’s answer to the Oscars? Will A. R. Rahman’s music bag him another bundle of awards? Will the Bachchans (Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) set a new bench mark in acting?

Well fingers crossed; let’s wait and watch!
