Decoding the Enigmatic Ruler of Hearts - Superstar Rajinikanth...

That his real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad and he was given Rajinikanth as his screen-name by his mentor and filmmaker K. Balachander, are some very common facts about our Tamil superstar. On his 64th birthday, which falls on 12th December this year, let's sneak a peek at some lesser known or completely unknown facts about Legendary Rajinikanth!







1. He may be a Tamil superstar, but Rajinikanth was born in a Maharashtrian family.







2. Rajinikanth belonged to a poor family. Which is why once he had completed his schooling, he had to get into some odd jobs to earn some money. To name a few – the superstar had joined the Bangalore Transport Service as a bus conductor once, and he had even worked as a coolie and a carpenter.









3. Did you have even a little idea that Rajinikanth has performed on some dance sequences with the controversial southern siren, Silk Smitha? If that's not enough, here's more to leave you speechless... several times, the superstar was said to have an affair with the Malayalam babe!









4. In addition to working in a number of Indian regional movies, Rajini had also been a part of an English project, titled Bloodstone. Made in 1988, the film was directed by American filmmaker, Dwight H. Little, and produced by Ashok Amritraj.









5. Rajinikanth's name has been registered as the only Indian actor who has featured in the textbooks of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus. The chapter based on the life of the superstar is titled as 'From Bus Conductor to Film Star', and it comes under the category Dignity of Work.








6. Amid his ever increasing fan-following, it does strike us as an interesting query as to who Rajinikanth's favourite actor is. And the answer is – the legendary artiste, Kamal Haasan. The two have worked together in over 18 films.








7. How Rajini met and fell in love with his wife Latha is certainly a cute love story. Latha, along with her college group, had come to interview the superstar for her college magazine. This was when Rajini got smitten with her. The two got married on 26th February 1981 in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, without any fanfare or media glare.









8. Once he wraps up a film's shooting, Rajinikanth takes a break out of Chennai. He visits the Himalayas, where he finds utter peace. He usually makes a trip to Bangalore with his close pals before going to the Himalayas.









9. Filmmakers don't include Rajinikanth's death sequence in their scripts, as they fear that this might upset his fans, who can create a havoc after seeing their idol dead onscreen.









10. Rajinikanth is a big time street food buff. He has eaten at almost all the street side food corners in Chennai.








11. The superstar is a thorough devotee of Lord Ganesha, and religiously fasts for Lord Shiva.









12. Though he has lapped up a number of awards and even a Padma Bhushan, Rajinikanth is yet to take a National Award trophy home.
